If you’re one of those people who find their Twitter profile to be full of shit, then this tweet is for you. The farmers who stand in front of the MTR station this morning to protest against the new traffic lights are not normal humans; they’re animals.
The MTR (Main Line Railway) is the city’s main transportation artery and is basically the backbone of the urban landscape. It cuts through some of the city’s most popular areas, including the main shopping districts. The traffic lights are a recent addition to MTR and were meant to be a good way for drivers to slow down and watch for oncoming traffic, but this morning the farmers decided to take matters into their own hands and set up their own traffic lights.
The farmers say their traffic lights are meant to help farmers on the line, but apparently the “normal” traffic lights are designed for cars and not farmers, so this has caused quite a bit of anger and chaos.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen farmers protesting in the Kowloon City area. And yes, we see some of them in full riot gear, but that’s not the point.
The point is that this is a protest against the way farmers are treated in the city, yet it seems like its been a long time since one of the major protesters was actually on a tractor.
Not sure if that is the case, but some of the protests we’ve seen in the area are in the middle of the road and so they go from side to side. It’s not that farmers are not allowed to protest, it’s just that it doesnt happen every day.
We are definitely seeing a lot more protests of the sort we saw in the city. The police have increased their presence in these areas in recent weeks, and theyve also been using tear gas and shields (obviously not the most effective way of dealing with a protest, but its the method most police chose to deal with it).
A few days ago this guy was talking to a guy who has some of his own farm animals in his yard and is talking about the animals being thrown out of his house. He said he doesn’t know if people would give them the option of being thrown out of their house, but he did. He went on to say that the people who are actually throwing them out of their house would have to get permission from the landowners.
This is the first time I’ve heard of this happening, but I’ve seen this happen before. In the late 90s I lived in a town that had an animal shelter. They had a few dogs that were homeless, and they would occasionally come by. One of the dogs would come up to me and say, “Hey, do you know where my mom is?” I’d say, “No.
